JA MotorSports 80 History JA MotorSports all began about ten years ago when driving down a busy street in Spokane Wa., Travis Allen noticed a racecar on the side of the road for sale. After negotiating the price of $500.00, we thought we were ready to race! After the first two races, it became apparent we were no where close to being ready to race, let alone being on the track. Needless to say, we only ran one more race and decided to do a MAJOR over hall (not to mention the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) and start the next race season fresh. We starting working and building a new car and set our sights on doing better than our first attempt at racing and did pretty well for rookies at the track. Throughout the year, we had our ups and downs but ended up taking 6th place in points and felt pretty good about what we had done. However, like any true competitor, we wanted more and worked hard in the off season to improve our race product. After the first full season, we ended up buying a new car and started to build this car up so that we could be even more competitive. We actually came up with the name JA MotorSports while working on the car at our set up guy's shop. At the time, one of the crew (Rick Cobb) was working under the car when our main set up guy (Jerry Zumwalt) asked him "What are you doing under there Jack Ass", thus, JA MotorSports began! After laughing for several minutes, days of wondering what to call ourselves, we felt JA (with adding MotorSports) fit us to a tee. As each season came and went, we kept getting better and better and finally, after hooking up with some very-very good people, we got to be very competitive and it showed in the points standings. I would like to repeat, with out the people that came aboard, nothing would of happened for the race team. Everyone of the crew members, (see crew link) without their help (and I mean a lot of help) JA MotorSports would not of happened. We took 6th place the full first season we ran, Added the great people and then took 3rd place the next season. For the next two seasons, we took 2nd place and finally, after all the time and hard work from the crew (not to mention the dollars) we won the championship in 2002. The next season, with a little luck, hard work and more money, we repeated as the point champions and decided it was time for a change. Lets make no mistake about all this, without all the HARD WORK from all the crew members, none of this would of happened. The amount of time they all put in is nothing less than remarkable and needed as well as appreciated. The following season, we decided to run with a touring group for steel body compact racecars and ran three times with them. It was fun and we did well but decided that we wanted to move on and run with a late model style body and this brings us to our current car which runs with the Late Model 4's and the North West Pro-4 Alliance.
Although this page could go on and on about he history of JA MotorSports, I'm hoping that after you read this, you will get an idea of how we got started and where we are at today. You will also notice that I keep saying "we" throughout this page and there is a reason for this. Without each and everyone of the people that were involved with JA MotorSports, I would of not been able to do what has been done (and will do) and I can't say thank you enough to everyone. The following people have had a hand in JA MotorSports throughout the years and I would like to acknowledge them now:
Rick Cobb Jeff Claffey Stan Cowin Jim Potts Jerry Zumwalt Andy Campbell Claude Campbell Brian Sailing Frankie Volts Jr. Travis Allen Charles Allen Tom Dry John McCroskey Jerry Zumwalt Jr. Scott Thomas Jeramiah Cobb Doc's Muffler Tire Factory Chris Brown Dave Hogan Orville Moe Casey Campbell Brittney Allen Don Belcher Kevin McKeehan Ron
